Transferring Credit

90 credits are needed in order to earn the degree. Up to 60 credits earned at another accredited institution, through military experience and/or coursework, or through ISSA's vocational division are eligible for transfer.

At least 30 credits must be completed as structured undergraduate courses specifically through ISSA College of Exercise Science (CES) in order for the AS degree to be awarded.

A maximum of 2 self-paced certification courses will be accepted in transfer towards the AS in Exercise Science degree program, upon passing a competency exam with a 75% or higher. They will count towards the 15-credit maximum awardable for credit-by-examination.

In order for previously completed undergraduate coursework to be eligible for transfer, it must have been completed with a grade of C or higher through an accredited college/university.

In order for transfer credit to be awarded, we must receive an official transcript from the issuing institution. Transfer credit evaluations are conducted within ~60-90 days of receipt of a transcript. We must have a completed application on file in order for a transfer credit evaluation to be conducted.

In order to have previously completed undergraduate coursework evaluated for transferability, please have an official transcript sent from each previously attended institution to:

by email (securely delivered electronic transcripts only): contact our Registrar's Office for the correct email address

OR

by mail: ISSA CES | Office of the Registrar | 1015 Mark Ave | Carpinteria, CA 93013

NOTE: Electronic transcripts must be received via secure electronic delivery (i.e. Parchment Exchange, Docufide, Credentials Solutions, etc.). Transcripts that are received via fax or as email attachments are considered unofficial and will not be accepted. Unsealed transcripts received via mail will not be accepted.

In order to have your military training/experience evaluated for transferability, please go to the link below to request that an official transcript be sent directly to our institution:

Army / Navy / Marines / Coast Guard - https://jst.doded.mil
Air Force - http://www.au.af.mil/au/barnes/ccaf/transcripts.asp

Credit awarded for experiential or equivalent learning cannot exceed 25 percent of the credits required for a degree.

College transfer credits are determined by the receiving institution. Each institution is responsible for determining its own policies and practices with regard to the transfer and award of credit.

Please see page 37 of the Degree Course Catalog for information regarding interinstitutional transfer of credit.

Credit-by-Examination

The ISSA CES may award credit-by-examination upon consideration of scores from the following standardized examinations:

  • Chauncey Group International – DSST Program (formerly DANTES Subject Standardized Tests)
  • College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)
  • Excelsior College Exams (formerly ACT-PEP, formerly Regents College Exams)
  • College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Program

Students must provide the College with their standardized examination results in the form of an official Score Report or Transcript. Award of academic credit toward the degree program is assessed on the basis of test scores and the appropriate subject area. ISSA CES will award transfer credit for exams that are associated with the current CES curriculum - a maximum of 15 quarter credits will be awarded as credit-by-examination. The American Council on Education's "minimum score for awarding credit" is accepted as a reliable measure of college-level competence in introductory course content. Credit-by-examination can be applied to ISSA CES general education and elective degree requirements only.

Our school's CLEP code is: 4898

Our school's College Board code is: 7682

We will need to receive an official score report directly from the testing organization in order to award credit-by-examination.

Official score reports should be sent to:

ISSA CES | Office of the Registrar | 1015 Mark Ave | Carpinteria, CA 93013

Foreign Transcript Evaluation

Transcripts for comparable ISSA CES-level courses completed in a country other than the United States must be evaluated by an outside credential evaluation company before they are submitted to ISSA CES. The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) members are acceptable sources for foreign credential evaluation and translation services.

The list of NACES members can be found here:

http://www.naces.org/members.htm

The type of evaluation that we will need to receive is a "Course-by-Course" evaluation, which shows course subjects, titles, grades, and credits, along with US credit and grade equivalents for each of your courses. Most of the NACES members call this type of evaluation a "Course-by-Course" evaluation or will mention conducting a "course-by-course" analysis in the description of the evaluation.

Course-by-Course Credential Evaluation Results should be sent directly to:

ISSA CES | Office of the Registrar | 1015 Mark Ave | Carpinteria, CA 93013

If you have questions regarding the transfer of credit, please contact our Registrar's Office.
